Appreciating the Church without Being Religious

This is a tangent somewhat unrelated to the focus of our blog, but I need to get it off my chest. I’m sick of people bashing on the church. Whether it’s people from Middle Eastern tradition bashing on their parents’ mosque and minaret or people from Western tradition bashing on their parents’ synagogue and temple, it disgusts me all the same.

Young people today have no idea how much they take for granted. We owe so much to religion for much of our civilizations’ achievements–aught from our music notation to painting techniques, architecture masonry, astronomy and mathematics. Sure, the church has a downside. But guess what… everything has a downside.

I continue to respect my heritage, my family’s tradition, my ancestors’ culture and the all the religions on the planet because I’ve done my research, I’ve done my thinking and I know that ripping up our history and throwing it away is a worse thing to do than go to church.

I just wanted to get this off my chest and share this thought with a few people. Feel free to share this post if you feel the same way, and don’t forget to come back to Olympic Bagel in the future for more interesting subject matter. Until then, farewell!
